The Section

The Section is a Twin Cities based jazz duo featuring guitarist Alex Rensch and upright bassist Ed Rudolph. Primarily influenced by the great jazz rhythm sections of the ‘50s and ‘60s, The Section puts a modern spin on the great American songbook without losing their relentless sense of swing. Originally composed of members from the University of Minnesota-Morris Jazz Ensemble, the band has continually experimented with lineup, instrumentation, and repertoire. The Section has been gigging throughout the Upper Midwest since the Summer of 2013.

Alex Rensch

Alex Rensch is a professional guitarist based in White Bear Lake. Since graduating from the University of Minnesota-Morris, Alex has thrown himself into the Twin Cities music scene. Whether it be playing with a jazz combo, performing solo classical guitar, or even conducting, Alex is comfortable in most, if not all, musical settings. He is currently conducting a production of the Wizard of Oz at Richfield High School, as well as gigging locally.

Edward Rudolph

Edward Rudolph is a professional bassist, composer, and educator based in Elk River. He has been creating music for over fifteen years and has performed at various festivals around the Midwest in groups ranging in size from symphonic orchestras to jazz trios. He currently directs band at St. John Lutheran in Elk River.
